Description:

EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids [(n-3)] that are abundant in fish, shellfish, and some algae.  However, because our bodies do not efficiently produce some omega-3 fatty acids, it is necessary to obtain adequate amounts through fish and fish-oil products. Omega-3 fatty acids are known to be incorporated throughout the body into the bi-phospholipid layer of the cell membrane leading to the production of less pro-inflammatory mediators upon cellular injuries compared to other fatty acids like Omega-6 fatty acids that are more prevalent in the Western diet. EPA-DHA is an ultra-pure, molecularly distilled fish oil concentrate that has been tested for environmental contaminants (heavy metals, PCBs, dioxins and furans), microbial contaminants, oxidation and rancidity.
